After the ball is over,
After the break of morn,
After the dancers’ leaving,
After the stars are gone.
Bright lights were flashing in the grand ballroom.
Softly the music playing sweet tunes.
The invitation is faded.
The grand ball a delicious memory.
The gown … the gloves … the bracelet … revisiting a golden evening.
Many a heart is aching,
After the ball is over ….
(Dress #2 in the Mad Men fashions from the past)

Is there a song about this? I seem to remember my Mom singing something along this line.
What a gorgeous gown…….
Love from your far away friend
Indeed you did Donna. It’s a really old song and what you used to waltz to. Hear it on U tube 0 Foster And Allen After The Ball. Love Ginny
Oh you most magnificant and beautiful Virginia! How very, very lovely. How I wish to have seen you at the ball. The crowd must have parted as you entered the room. Pure beauty! I covet the bracelet….How elegant!
Darling, adorable Tin Man. The bracelet has a story. I admired it in the window of a jewelery store. It was pricy. The equivalent to a weeks salary. The setting was so beautifully done you could slide a nylon stocking across the bracelet and it wouldn’t catch on the settings. My 18th birthday and I opened my present to find my younger sister Heather had bought me the bracelet. That was 59 years ago. It has been much loved and well worn.
How very beautiful a story! No wonder it called to me……the joy and secrets of the past always do. I love you so!!
My heart is aching.. for that dress!! I am dying to play dress up in your wardrobe! c
Hmmmm I wonder what size Celi is?? This is going to be an interesting week of blogging. After I finish my Mad Men fashion posts I am diving into the wardrobe to see what other treasures I can unearth. There’s been a lot of complaining that everyone is not getting equal time out of the clothes closet. XXOo Virginia
your wardrobe is amazing.. what a life you must have, we use your whisk often you know, I was whisking the mead with it the other day and thinking of you! x
And when you drink that mead a year from now lift a glass in the direction of Vancouver Celi. XX
How beautiful and elegant! Oh, my!
The “mermaid” style was the latest shout back in the fifties. I really swanned around in this dress. Virginia
I’m reading these out of order, and loving it!
The dresses don’t mind – and I certainly don’t. I’ve told these dresses all about you and they agog to see your latest creation.. XXOoVirginia
I’m on it! XO -R
YES. YES. YES. Virginia, please continue with your “Wardrobe” series. This is so much fun and interesting, too. My goodness. The dress is truly wonderful. I love its frothy bottom. The “mermaid” style is terrific and flattering, to boot. I also loved reading about the thoughtful bracelet gift. How did she know? Had you spotted you spotting it? What a sweet story. Don’t stop!! T. (Again, I love the meshing of the photographs, stories and words. Sublime!!)
We were shopping together when I spotted the bracelet. I was so disappointed when it disappeared from the shop window. Sister Heather had secretly purchased it and stashed it away for my birthday. The beautiful fabric covered box is the original container the bracelet came in. The bracelet has attended many glittering events. Then it traveled to Toronto to grace the wrist of my beautiful daughter for many years. XXOo V.
“Elegance” is what came to mind after reading this post, Virginia…gorgeous gown and bracelet and I love the story behind the bracelet, too…xoxo
