The holiday season really is the ultimate entertaining season. Cocktail parties. Open house. Christmas dinner. New Years eve. All the sparkling entertainment of the year gathered into a few weeks.
MRS. BUTTERFINGERS’ kitchen has a dusting of flour. There’s butter and sugar whipping to golden goodness in the mixer. Panettone, rich with eggs and studded with dried fruit is raising to glorious heights beneath a blue and white tea towel.
Coming out of the oven are sausage rolls. Not your traditional staid sausage rolls but one bite concoctions of utter bliss. The filling is hot Italian sausage seasoned with fragrant fennel and oregano. The addition of a little fresh breadcrumbs takes the bit out of the sausage, but you can use a mild sausage if you prefer. It just wont have quite the same flavour excitement. The pastry is easy pre-rolled puff pastry sheets. The heavenly combination of Dijon mustard, honey and a touch of Sriracha is the perfect and unusual touch to this more than perfect appetizer.
